2

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your Phonex Expeditions Africa safari guide will collect you from your Arusha hotel after breakfast. This morning, you will drive to Tarangire National Park, your first taste of the wild on your luxury safari. The transit time is approximately two and a half hours on good tarmac roads. Tarangire has a healthy wildlife population, big and small. The park is famous for its herd of elephants; you may see them meandering through the bush. During dry season, you may see them congregating at the river to enjoy drinks or just to cool off from the hot sun. In addition to this, the park has over 500 bird species.

The park, with its baobab-crested landscape, is beautiful. Baobab trees tower above the savannah, and these ancient trees play a vital role in the ecosystem as they are home to bees, birds, and bats. They also provide a nourishing fruit and are a source of water during the dry season. Lunch will be served at a picnic site inside the park. After game drives, you will transit to your accommodation near the park.

3

Tarangire National Park to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park. The park offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and mountain sides. Apart from its spectacular setting, the park is famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the elephant herds it was established to protect. The shores of the lake attract 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants. A large herd of buffalo, Maasai giraffes, and impalas roam the lake shores and the forested valley slopes. After a full day inside the park, you will make the short drive to your luxury accommodation in Karatu.

4

Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will drive up into the cooler regions of Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There will be a chance to stop and see the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. You will then transit through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering at the southern side of the park.

The Serengeti is really spectacular; it is famous for its vast open grassland, which allows for excellent sightings of wildlife. While it boasts abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual Great Migration. Vast numbers of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be found during any given month; you just need to know where to look!

5

Discovering Serengeti National Park

The entire day is set for a full-day game drive in Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is arguably one of the most famous national parks in the world. It is famous for its vast, open grassland, which allows for excellent sightings and abundant wildlife. It is one of the oldest ecosystems on earth, and its climate and vegetation have remained largely untouched for millions of years. The Serengeti is home to a staggering variety of wildlife, but it is here where you have the best chance of seeing some of the predators in action, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Today it is possible to do morning and afternoon game drives, returning to the camp for lunch.

Otherwise, a full-day game drive with picnic lunch in the park.

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will drive from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater. This crater, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest caldera in the world. It is reported that before it erupted, it would be higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa! Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth.

The drive down into the crater is an adventure in itself, and when you reach the crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, and more than 500 bird species. The crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.

After a full afternoon inside the crater, you will head to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay in Karatu.
